August Fishing Report Hernando Beach FL
Dog days of summer is here and man it is HOT out side, red fish will start schooling up on the outer islands and mangrove shorelines. Mid incoming tide or a high outgoing is the best time to target red fish along with snook. Live pilchards rigged with a 1/0-2/0 circle hook and a 30 pound leader is all you need. Look for mullet schools the red fish will hang around with the mullet and feed on what the mullet stir up. Snook will also hold in the same area as the red fish. Sea trout are in 10-13 feet of water on grassy bottom, i like to drift that area with 1/4-3/8 ounce jig heads and a white little jon soft plastic bait slowly hopping across the bottom.
Start early if possible try to beat the heat drink plenty of water and play the tides to your advantage.
