Happy New Year All.
2020 is here and we are kicking off Janaury with some great fishing action. Speckeled sea trout are holding on shallow bottom grass flats, lime rock and oyster bars. Lures are a great search bait for trout i like to use a top water plug on cloudy over cast days and a sub surface twitch bait on sunny days. When the trout are skittish a soft approach may work better like a 5 inch fluke in white or water melon red color rigged weedless with a 4/0-5/0 weedless hook is my way to target spooky trout.
Red fish are holding close to the same areas as the trout. I like to use live shrimp or cut mullet and pin fish for bait when targeting red fish. A mid incoming tide or high falling tide seems to be the better bite for red fish. Sheepshead and black drum will also hold in the same areas as red fish, for sheeps and drum i use live or dead shrimp on a 1/0 bait holder hook and a 1/16 ounce split shot just a little weight to keep the shrimp on the bottom.
A little farther offshore we have a good sheepshead bite on the grouper rocks in 8-10 feet of water along with some grunts, mangrove snappers and triple tails. Out in 25 -35 feet we also have some big sheeps, mangrove snapper, hog fish and red grouper.
